Why you shouldn't build a website | Lazy K Creative blog

A few weeks ago I had lunch with two of my favorite gals, and in between therapy sessions related to the real life pains of adulting, we talked about so many of the misdirections and misconceptions we see in marketing. And one of the biggest I see time and time again? Companies and businesses building websites. Newsflash. You should never build a website. Nope. Never. Now, hear me out before you question my ability to call myself a marketing expert. A website isn’t something to have. It isn’t a product. It isn’t something to mark off a checklist. It isn’t something to build. To own. To launch. I promise I’m getting to my punch line here. A website isn’t worth building unless you have a plan for it. A plan for why you need one in the first place. A purpose for it existing in cyber space. You should never build a website … Read More

Three ways to take better iPhone pics for social media and web

Three ways to take better iPhone pics for social media and web | Lazy K Creative Blog

Let’s be honest. Not everyone has the capacity to invest in a professional all the time, especially when it comes to commercial photography. And this coming from a photo savvy creative (who, once upon a time, took lifestyle portraits for payment and was pretty darn good at it). Actually, I’m still darn good at it, but have outgrown the oversaturated industry and decided to focus on my other creative interests. I maintain my own visual brand in three ways: Quality stock photos (mainly for blog posts); professional photos (with my big girl camera); and finally, well thought out iPhone photos (is that a gasp I hear?). Yes, I take iPhone photos and use them on my website. Yes, I snap quick pics and use them on Instagram. Yes, I’m not ashamed. The truth is that your iPhone is capable of taking some pretty darn good photos. Keep in mind these … Read More

Inside Lazy K Creative | The story behind my personal brand | The Lazy K Creative blog

In a nutshell, branding is your identity packaged into a little visual present for the world. It’s you – your quirks, your beliefs, your expertise, your passions, your goals and your values – integrated into your biz. Your brand should be a realistic reflection of who you are as a person, and that visual message should be easy for potential clients to recognize, comprehend, and relate. It’s not complicated. And it shouldn’t be. So, curious what goes into building, or reinventing, your own brand? Let’s look inside my own business – Lazy K Creative. What’s in a name? I dreamed, and struggled, for years about what to call myself. I hated my last name – Kujawski – because really, who can say it let alone spell it. I didn’t want to go down that road. I played around with variations of my first name – Jenna – and almost settled … Read More

How to stay organized and kick butt in both work and life | part two

Because so many of you enjoyed my first post on how to organize your life and really kick butt, I’m back with more. Remember, these are just some of the little things I’ve discovered over time that have really helped me, and my family, get through the day, actually enjoy each other, and feel like we’re not on a sinking ship. I mean, my hubby and I actually get time for back porch coffee drinking most weekends, so we’ve got to be doing something right. Right? Tip #1. I memorized my credit card. It’s awesome. I can buy things online without having to get my wallet out of my purse or find my credit card. It’s also really bad because I can buy things online without having to find my wallet or my credit card. Which means I buy too many things online. While that’s a problem I’m working on … Read More

5 must haves every boss needs before launching their biz

I’m going to save you all the head banging I did when I first launched my business. I had my craft down – I mean I was cranking out projects left and right, building my client base and my skillsets, but I was struggling from a business perspective. I was spending too much time trying to organize my business, from to-do lists, to spreadsheets to account logins. It was exhausting! So, because I’ve had to learn the hard way and have now finally gotten into a groove, I’m sharing the love. Here’s my own personal list (nope, nobody is paying me to talk about them) of five must haves every entrepreneur today should have before launching their business. Accounting software: When I first started my business, I had a Paypal account and would bill my photography clients that way. I also had a Square account, and used it occasionally to … Read More

How to stay organized and kick butt in both work and life | part one

Face it. Life is hard. Work is hard. And trying to stay on top of both is exhausting. Lucky for me I’ve always been very organized. But then I met my husband in college. He was not so super organized. So I became his walking calendar and to-do list. Then I entered my 30s, had two kids, and my brain stopped working altogether. So, here I am, 34 and still super organized, but it’s hard work people! And since I’m now responsible for making sure four people (me + hubby + daughter + son) make it through life, I’ve had to come up with some no-brainer ways to keep us all from driving off a cliff…not literally. My formula is simple, but it works. And, since we’re all different, add your own flavor to the formula to make it work for you. Tip #1: I’ve gone electronic for everything. While … Read More

Why investing in a creative expert always matters for your business

Why investing in a creative expert always matters for your business

Guys, here’s the honest truth. If you want it done right, hire an expert. Period. If you just want it done (sometimes years later) hire anyone. Better yet. Don’t pay them if they aren’t an expert. You’re wasting money. As a #bossmom who helps clients build their brand presence and market themselves professionally, I’m not naive. There’s a bunch of “experts” in my field, with prices ranging from “starving to death” to “I could buy my own island.” I find myself somewhere in the middle. But, the truth is that doing the work – and doing the right work – isn’t something that a novice can do. Creative bosses, those who are truly experts at what they do, don’t just do it for the paycheck. Far from it. They do the work because they are passionate about what they can offer their clients. They are motivated by life-long learning, change … Read More

I take my Christmas music very seriously

adminBlog Comments

I love Christmas, and I love listening to Christmas music. I have literally been listening to the same Christmas playlist for years now. Years. And I never get tired of it. So I wanted to share my favorite Christmas songs with you — I thought about just posting a Facebook status on this, but quickly realized I had too many opinions to fit into a little Facebook status. Me? Opinions? Who would have thought, right? These are songs that I remember singing in the car with my brother and sister or songs that help me remember the true meaning of the season. And, I want to make sure you realize that the artist singing these songs is just as important to me as the song itself. Because there are like 10 gazillion versions of Christmas songs out there, but I am super picky about my favorite versions. Beautiful Star of … Read More

Ku-Tip: The perfect use for your old yearbook

adminBlog Comments

Between the two of us, Brady and I have kept most of our high school yearbooks, and I’m the only one that even bought an Aggie yearbook. And, from time to time, we like to pull out our high school yearbooks and laugh at ourselves and the people we know. But I have never pulled out my Aggie yearbook to look through it. Except for the picture of me, I don’t know 99% of the people in it. And it’s too damn big anyway. I mainly bought it to have it as a keepsake, so one day, I can pull it out and show my kids how dumb I looked as a senior at Texas A&M. Let’s just say I’m glad I’m done with highlights. So, the other day, I needed something about as thick as, oh, an Aggie yearbook. I didn’t even bother to dust it off. And, it … Read More

Ku-Tip: Jenna’s legen — wait for it — dary list for babies

adminBlog Comments

First, I apologize for neglecting my Friday Ku-Tips. I kinda haven’t posted one in about eight Fridays. And now that I have absolutely no control over my free time, I’ve decided to just post my insightful tips whenever the heck I feel like it. Second, I apologize that so many of my posts have been about a certain someone lately, but I have to admit, when all you do day in and day out is be a mom, well, talking about babies is about the only thing you have to share. Finally, on to the reason for this post. Since I love helping people so much (no, I’m not being sarcastic), I wanted to share my most awesome necessities for babies. I got a few ideas from friends when I was pregnant, and wanted to return the favor. Plus, with so much unwanted advice out there (new moms and moms-to-be, … Read More
